BENTELER celebrates a family day at its Dinslaken site

Paderborn/Dinslaken, July 6, 2025. On Saturday, July 5, 2025, the BENTELER plant in Dinslaken was all about family: the company hosted a large family day at the site to celebrate 50 years of being part of the BENTELER Group together with around 1,000 guests. Around 550 employees are currently employed at the Dinslaken site of the BENTELER Steel/Tube Division, whose history goes back around 250 years. Working in three shifts, they produce seamless steel tubes for the energy industry and mechanical engineering. 

“Today we’re celebrating the 50th anniversary of our site here in Dinslaken. The driving force behind this success is our dedicated employees, who work with great commitment – in some cases from multiple generations of the same family – and have helped write this success story,” said Thomas Michels, Chief Operating Officer and member of the Management Board of BENTELER Steel/Tube. 

Ongoing investment in BENTELER locations

Dinslaken is a high-performing, state-of-the-art location. Each year, around 220,000 tons of seamless steel tubes are produced here – from standard mechanical engineering and commercial tubes to highly complex tube applications for boiler and plant construction and tubes for the automotive industry. 

 “We are strongly positioned,” said plant manager Michael Kassing, who recently joined the Dinslaken site. He praised the commitment of his team and the strategic direction of the site. “With this plant, we are ideally positioned for our home market in Europe. We had excellent capacity utilization in the first half of the year. I’d particularly like to highlight the strong relationships with our customers – characterized by excellent, collaborative partnerships.” 

BENTELER continues to invest in its facilities – including Dinslaken. Thomas Michels explained: “Just about a year ago, we invested around €9 million in modernizing our hot operations area at Dinslaken. By changing the input material used, we’ve since been able to further increase production efficiency.”

Forecasting the future and offering an economic outlook, however, remains a challenge at the moment,” Michels added. “Naturally, our future prospects are also shaped by the current geopolitical situation. The U.S. is an integral part of the Dinslaken site’s order book, which makes reliable forecasting – for instance in light of tariff discussions – particularly difficult. However, the recently approved economic stimulus packages from the German government are promising, even if we won’t see the effects until 2026.”

Sustainability and young talent: training tomorrow’s skilled workforce in-house

Sustainability is particularly important to BENTELER. Since September 2023, the Steel/Tube Division has marketed its own product brand for more sustainable steels and steel tube products – BENTELER CliMore®. These products deliver the same high quality – but with a significantly reduced CO₂ footprint. Dinslaken is one of the locations where these tubes are manufactured. 

However, sustainability is not the company’s only top priority. Training future talent is also high on the agenda. Especially in times of skilled labor shortages, it’s essential to turn young people into tomorrow’s experts through qualified training. “That’s why we’re investing in training and nurturing our future workforce from within our own ranks” explained Michael Kassing. In 2018, the company invested in a modern new training center. Currently, 20 apprentices are being trained there in the fields of electronics, industrial mechanics, and process technology. The site also participates in a training consortium, through which an additional 15 apprentices are currently learning at the center.
