Cooperation: BENTELER supplies first green steel CliMore® tubes to Stabilus

Paderborn, January 18, 2024. BENTELER has supplied welded CliMore® tubes in the Ambition category for the first time to an end customer, the Stabilus Group, one of the world's leading suppliers of motion control solutions, where they will be used to manufacture gas springs. BENTELER Steel/Tube introduced the new brand for sustainable steel tubes in the fall of 2023. The first quantities of seamless tubes were successfully placed with European distributors at the end of last year. This has now been followed by the first delivery of welded tubes made of CO2-reduced steel from BENTELER’s electric steel mill in Lingen direct to an end customer.
"Climate change and the decarbonization of industry associated with it, especially the steel industry, are among the most important challenges of our time. The collaboration between BENTELER and Stabilus demonstrates our strong commitment to operating sustainably and making our contribution to reducing the carbon footprint," says Ralph Mathis, Chief Sales Officer BENTELER Steel/Tube. "We are delighted that our long-standing partner Stabilus is the first customer to receive welded tubes from our recently launched CliMore® brand directly from us."
BENTELER CliMore – the new brand for all CO2-reduced steel products
BENTELER works constantly to reduce its carbon footprint and has already adapted its product and service portfolio to meet its customers' increasing ecological interests. In September 2023, the Steel/Tube Division presented its new CliMore® product brand to the public. It covers all CO2-reduced steels and steel tube products in the division and categorizes them in three sustainability categories: Advantage, Ambition and Excellence. These indicate how the steel was produced and which energy sources were used for it.
In each of the three levels, low-emission steel is produced from scrap using the electric arc furnace. This recycling alone saves up to 75% of CO2 emissions when compared with new steel produced from iron ore in the classic blast furnace route. For the Ambition level, green electricity is used in the tube mills and for the operation of the electric arc furnace. This results in a reduction of up to 85% in CO2 emissions. In addition, the highest level, Excellence, will focus in future on electrification of the plants or use of green hydrogen as an energy source for process energy in the production of steel and its processing.
