Salzburg/Paderborn, October 29, 2025. The BENTELER Group has been awarded the Silver Medal by EcoVadis, the world's largest provider of sustainability ratings. This places the company among the top 15% of all companies worldwide assessed by EcoVadis in the past twelve months. In addition, BENTELER was recently honored with the Austria’s Leading Companies (ALC) Award in the sustainability category. The award assesses the ESG performance – environment, social and governance-related issues – of Austria’s 165 highest-revenue companies and establishes an ESG performance ranking. BENTELER was recognized as the best company in Salzburg.
“Both awards underscore our commitment to Corporate Social Responsibility. They show that our wide-ranging efforts, particularly our consistent efforts to reduce CO2 emissions and take responsibility for future generations, are being recognized and rewarded,” says Ralf Göttel, CEO of the BENTELER Group.
Progress in all four core sustainability areas
The EcoVadis assessment covers 21 sustainability criteria across four core topics: environment, labor and human rights, ethics and sustainable procurement. EcoVadis has evaluated more than 85,000 companies worldwide. “The BENTELER Group improved in all four areas of sustainability. The EcoVadis process validates our commitments, practices and performance in the field of sustainability and provides a clear roadmap on how we can create additional value for the environment and society,” explains Stefan Henkelmann, Director Divisional Strategy & Group Sustainability Office at the BENTELER Group.
EcoVadis sustainability ratings are based on international standards such as the ten principles of the UN Global Compact, the conventions of the International Labour Organization (ILO), the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) standards, and ISO 26000. The ratings provide evidence-based insights into performance and an actionable roadmap for continuous improvement.
Comprehensive sustainability strategy: BENTELER is committed to responsible action across all divisions
With several energy-intensive production sites, the BENTELER Group is acutely aware of its environmental and social responsibility. The company aims to achieve net-zero emissions by 2050. “We are pursuing a comprehensive sustainability strategy focused on five key areas: climate change, circular economy, water, employees and working conditions, and sustainable corporate governance,” adds Stefan Henkelmann.
Important milestones, especially in the area of climate action, include the complete conversion of more than 70% of BENTELER’s 67 global plants to green electricity. In addition, the BENTELER Steel/Tube division, which operates its own electric steel plant in Lingen, produces steel from almost 100% recycled scrap.
“We take sustainability beyond our production processes,” concludes CEO Ralf Göttel, referring to the company’s mobility solutions in the automotive division. “With intelligent lightweight construction, BENTELER is helping to make vehicles even more efficient. And with HOLON urban, the fully electric, autonomous shuttle from our subsidiary HOLON, we are shaping the mobility of the future – safe, inclusive, and emission-free.”
