BENTELER optimizes hot rolling mill at Schloss Neuhaus location

Paderborn/Salzburg, September 8, 2020 – BENTELER has invested 5 million Euros in the optimization of the hot rolling mill at the Schloss Neuhaus site. At this location the Steel/Tube Division produces seamless hot-rolled tubes of the highest quality. As pre-material for its own drawing mill at the site and as tube solutions for the automotive, energy and industrial markets. Following a successful restart, final acceptance of the plant took place in August. "We are engaged in the locations where we produce. This investment is a clear commitment to the location Schloss Neuhaus", says Christian Wiethüchter, Chief Sales and Operating Officer BENTELER Steel/Tube.

Optimized hot rolling mill strengthens competitiveness

"As part of the modernization, we have extended the push bench - the core of the hot rolling mill - and fitted it with new drives. This has enabled us to achieve a significant increase in efficiency: the average shift output has been increased by 5 %. We are also improving the energy efficiency of the plant and reducing our maintenance costs. And the environment benefits as well – from the increased energy efficiency," says Thomas Michels, head of the Schloss Neuhaus and Paderborn plant network, summarizing the advantages of the modernization.

Realized in record time

In just 35 days of conversion time, more than 250 employees worked on the construction site. The extensive modernization was carried out during the 2019/2020 winter shutdown in order to minimize disruption to ongoing production. The supply of the customers and the downstream drawing mill at the site was ensured throughout the entire reconstruction period.
