BENTELER opens new drawing line at Paderborn steel tube mill
Paderborn, June 24, 2022. BENTELER opened a new drawing line at the Paderborn steel tube mill on Wednesday, June 22. Frank Wolters, Managing Director of the Paderborn Economic Development Corporation, and Ekkehard Kadenbach, Vice President Global Purchasing at Stabilus, were guests at the event. For this automotive supplier, among others, BENTELER will also manufacture tubes at the new drawing line. The company has invested a double-digit million euro sum in the plant. With the commissioning, up to 50 jobs will be created in parallel in the new production facility for precision steel tubes. The Steel/Tube division is thus strengthening the Schloss Neuhaus and Paderborn manufacturing cluster and expanding its market position in individual tube solutions for highly specialized applications in the automotive industry.
Following two years of construction, BENTELER puts the plant structure into operation
The new production line for welded tube applications has an annual capacity of 12,000 tons. For this purpose, a completely new, innovative infrastructure was created in the production hall for the drawing bench, which includes an integrated testing facility. More than 1,150 tons of concrete, around 31 tons of reinforcing steel and more than 1.7 kilometers of cable for supply lines weighing 7.7 tons have been installed in the past two years.
Automotive suppliers rely on BENTELER’s products
The tubes BENTELER produces on the new line are predominantly used in the automotive sector. For customers, it is important that they can rely on innovative tube solutions designed to meet the requirements of the end product. "Products that function faultlessly and have a long service life are very important in the automotive sector because they ensure greater safety for vehicle occupants. Our precision tubes meet these expectations safely and reliably, for example thanks to their excellent surface quality. Their homogeneous microstructure and tight tolerances also ensure high stability in subsequent processing. This makes us the ideal partner for suppliers to the automotive industry," explains Christian Wiethüchter, CSO and COO BENTELER Steel/Tube. "We are delighted to strengthen the location Paderborn with this investment."
Frank Wolters, Managing Director of the Paderborn Economic Development Corporation, emphasized at the opening event: "Investments like these strengthen the industrial location, the labor market and the attractiveness of the city of Paderborn and the East Westphalia region. Especially given the current competition for skilled workers, it is important that local companies invest in their locations. I am therefore particularly pleased about BENTELER's commitment to the city of Paderborn and the creation of new workplaces."
