Our Tradition
1876 was an eventful year. Nikolaus Otto fired up his first four-stroke engine. Mark Twain published The Adventures of Tom Sawyer. And in Bielefeld, a 23-year-old man acquired a hardware store. And thereby laid the foundation stone for our almost 150-year company history.
Early and successful refinancing provides momentum: From now on, BENTELER shapes the future of mobility with four divisions (BENTELER Automotive Components, BENTELER Automotive Modules, BENTELER Steel/Tube, HOLON).
BENTELER emphasizes its ambitions in the global autonomous mobility market with the launch of the new brand HOLON, focusing on autonomous movers.
The BENTELER Group begins its successful transformation into a metal processing specialist.
Ralf Göttel takes over as CEO of the BENTELER Group. Hubertus Benteler transitions to the Supervisory Board.
The Steel/Tube Division secures its position in the international market. One of the most efficient steel tube plants in North America is established in Shreveport.
BENTELER International AG is founded in Salzburg. It remains the strategic management holding of the BENTELER Group to this day.
The first BENTELER plant in China opens with a new location in Shanghai.
Hubertus Benteler takes over management and specializes the company in ready-to-install components and just-in-time delivery.
The first European location outside of Germany is established in Burgos, Spain.
International expansion begins with the first location of BENTELER Automobiltechnik GmbH in the USA.
The BENTELER electric steel plant in Lingen starts producing more environmentally friendly steel.
The first in-house steel production begins in Paderborn.
BENTELER starts production of its own small car, the "Champion". Around 2,000 units are sold.
The third generation of the owning family, Erich and Helmut Benteler, rebuilds production.
BENTELER receives its first order for the automotive industry and manufactures exhaust pipes for the Ford Eifel.
The BENTELER Werke Aktiengesellschaft is founded in Bielefeld.
BENTELER produces drawn tubes for the first time.
Eduard Benteler, who took over from his father Carl in 1908, buys a machinery factory in Bielefeld
