Energy Efficiency Improvement in the Production Process at the BENTELER ESPAÑA S.A. Plant in Burgos
BENTELER ESPAÑA S.A. has carried out various operations at its facilities in Burgos to improve the energy efficiency of its production process. This project has received financial support from the European Union, within the framework of the aid program for energy savings and efficiency in SMEs and large companies in the industrial sector, co-financed by the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF), coordinated by IDAE, and managed by the Autonomous Communities, charged to the National Energy Efficiency Fund, with the aim of achieving a cleaner and more sustainable economy.
The operations carried out under the funded initiative include:
1. Replacement of two existing fixed-speed screw compressors with two new compressors of the same power but higher energy efficiency.
Objective: Improve the energy efficiency of the compressed air generation process.
Results: Reduction in energy consumption by the compressors.
2. Recovery of exhaust heat from the hot stamping furnace 4 (HSL4).
Objective: Utilize the thermal energy from the exhaust gases of the HSL4 hot stamping furnace to heat part of the boiler water used to generate hot water for part washing.
Results: Reduction in natural gas consumption in hot water generation operations for part washing.
3. Installation of frequency converters on the hydraulic pumps of the press in hot stamping line 3 (HSL3).
Objective: Improve the energy efficiency of the hydraulic pumps of the hot stamping press 3.
Results: Reduction in energy consumption in the hot stamping process 3.
